True Calling, True Niche

The Math Teacher My Son Couldn’t Stand

A few years ago, my son was struggling with math — and not in the usual “I hate math” kind of way. He really struggled. No matter how much he studied, listened in class, or practiced at home, nothing seemed to click. His grades were slipping, and his frustration was through the roof.

As a parent, I did what any concerned mom would do — I tried everything. I helped him with homework, hired a tutor, and even reached out to his teacher for extra support. But nothing worked… until one day, after another tough evening of math homework, he finally blurted out:

“Mom, I can’t stand my math teacher’s voice! It drives me crazy!”

At first, I didn’t know what to say. His teacher seemed perfectly nice — professional, knowledgeable, and helpful. But to him, her voice was grating and irritating. Every time she explained something, he felt distracted, annoyed, and disconnected.

It wasn’t about her teaching skills or the subject matter. It was about her voice. Something about the way she sounded just didn’t land with him. And because of that, he couldn’t absorb what she was trying to teach.

Eventually, the teacher’s personality grew on him — and just like that, everything changed. He got it. The math lessons that seemed impossible before suddenly started to make sense.

The only difference? The teacher’s voice.

Your Voice Is More Important Than You Think

That experience stuck with me. It made me realize something powerful that applies far beyond the classroom:

Some people are designed to hear YOUR voice.

And I don’t just mean your literal voice (though that matters too). I mean the way you communicate — your tone, your style, your energy, and the unique way you express yourself.

Your voice is yours for a reason. It’s not meant to sound like anyone else’s. And believe it or not, there are people in this world who can only receive a certain message if it comes from you.

I Couldn’t Stand My Own Voice

This lesson hit even closer to home when I started my coaching and content-creating journey. Like so many of us, I struggled with something so simple… the sound of my own voice.

Every time I heard myself in a recording, I’d cringe. I thought my voice was too weird, too “off,” too awkward. I’d second-guess everything I recorded, wondering if anyone would take me seriously or even want to listen.

It wasn’t just about the way my voice sounded — it was about the deeper fear of being seen and heard.

What if people didn’t like what I had to say?
What if they thought I was trying too hard?
What if my message wasn’t “good enough”?

So for a long time, I held back. I spoke cautiously, filtered my message, and tried to sound more like the “successful” coaches I admired.

And you know what happened?

Nothing.

I wasn’t connecting. I wasn’t reaching people in a meaningful way — because I wasn’t being myself.

The Power of Speaking in Your True Voice

Over time, I realized something profound: My voice isn’t supposed to sound like anyone else’s.

Neither is yours.

We each have a unique way of communicating, sharing, and connecting that can’t be copied or replicated. And just like my son with his math teacher, there are people out there who need to hear the message only you can deliver, in the way you are meant to say it.

There are people whose hearts will open, whose lives will change, and whose struggles will ease — not because someone said the “right” thing… but because you said it, your way.

Your voice matters.

Your Story Is the Key to Your Message

When I talk about your voice, I’m not just talking about how you sound — I’m also talking about your story.

Every experience you’ve lived through — every struggle, every victory, every heartbreak, and every breakthrough — has shaped the way you express yourself.

And just like your voice, your story is yours for a reason.

But so often, we try to hide the most important parts of our stories because they feel too messy, too painful, or too personal. We convince ourselves that:

  • “Who would want to hear my story?”
  • “Other people have been through worse.”
  • “I’m not successful enough yet.”

But here’s the truth: The parts of your story that you’re most tempted to hide… are usually exactly what someone else needs to hear.

Someone Is Waiting for Your Story

Right now, someone out there is struggling with something you’ve already been through.

They’re searching for answers, hope, and guidance. They might be on the verge of giving up, believing they’re alone in their struggles.

Until they hear your voice.

Maybe they need to hear how you found your confidence after years of self-doubt. Maybe they need to know how you navigated loss, heartbreak, or failure — and came out stronger on the other side.

The things you think disqualify you — your mistakes, failures, or struggles — are actually what qualify you to share a message that’s real, authentic, and life-changing.

Your Message Connects You to Your Soul Audience

When you share your true story — not the “polished” or “perfect” version, but the real one — something magical happens:

You connect.

You become magnetic to the people you’re meant to serve because they’ll see themselves in your story. They’ll feel understood, inspired, and hopeful — because they’ll know that someone like them made it through.

Your story becomes more than just a personal experience… it becomes a message that can change lives.

The Message Only You Can Share

Your life has already written the message you’re meant to share.

Your voice — your literal and figurative voice — is exactly what someone out there is waiting for.

You don’t have to be perfect. You don’t need to have all the answers. You just need to be willing to share from the heart — because someone, somewhere, needs to hear it… in the way only you can say it.
